James Lee
James undertook his PhD in Toshiba’s Quantum Information Group at Cambridge University where he developed photon sources for quantum computing, followed by a time modelling equity derivatives at an investment bank. He holds masters degrees in Photonic Systems Development from Cambridge University and Physics from Oxford University.

Matthew Anderson
Matthew focuses on the photonic modelling aspects of Wave Photonics’ technology and on component design. He completed his PhD working in Toshiba’s Quantum Information Group at Cambridge University where he explored entangled photon sources at telecoms wavelengths for secure communication. He also holds a master’s degree in Physics from St. Andrews University.

Mateusz Kubica
Mateusz focuses on the computational optimisation and statistical modelling aspects of Wave Photonics. Before co-founding Wave Photonics, he worked for 9 years as an equity derivatives quant and quantitative developer at an investment bank where he helped build a Monte Carlo pricing engine. He holds a master’s in mathematics from University of Wrocław.

Ming Zhang
Dr. Ming Zhang is most recently Distinguished Architect at Synopsys, driving semiconductor technology strategy and new market development. Prior to Synopsys, he was co-founder and CEO of a Silicon Valley chiplet startup, zGlue. His experience at Intel and at the Samsung foundry focused on manufacturing process/circuit modeling and robust chip design. He holds a Ph.D. in EE from UIUC and a B.S. in Physics from Peking University.

Aidong Xu
Aidong joins Wave Photonics joins as Head of Business Development, having spent over 30 years in diverse industries, including start-ups, Cambridge Consultants and Infineon.
He has extensive experience in managing both technical and business development teams and brought innovative industry-leading products to market that have achieved rapid and sustained business growth. He also has many years of experience in venture capital industry, where he was responsible for identifying, investing, and building start-ups with disruptive technologies and supporting IP commercialisation and spin-outs from leading universities.
Aidong holds a PhD in Power Electronics and Power Semiconductors.

Jiangbo Zhu
Jiangbo’s work is primarily on component library development and ensuring that the designs integrate with the needs of packagers. Prior to joining Wave Photonics, he worked as Senior Lecturer at Northumbria University where he co-founded the Quantum and Molecular Photonics research group. Jiangbo has over a decade of integrated photonics research experience covering applications in communications, sensing and quantum technologies - after completing his PhD at Fudan University, he held research positions at Bristol University and Glasgow University.

Friederike Jöhlinger
Friederike is working on expanding the company’s component library. Prior to joining Wave Photonics, she undertook her PhD in integrated quantum photonics at Bristol University where she worked on implementation security of chip-scale quantum key distribution (QKD). During her PhD, Friederike joined Wave photonics for a 6-month secondment where she helped develop a passive, chip-based approach to QKD. She also holds a masters in physics from Glasgow University.

Giannis Chatzopoulos
Giannis joins Wave Photonics from the Dimensional Metrology Group at the National Physical Laboratory where he developed optical techniques for metrology. Prior to this, he completed a postdoc and PhD at the University of Southampton focused on integrated photonics for quantum technologies. He brings a great range of computational and experimental capability to Wave Photonics. Giannis will focus on making Wave Photonics’ components accessible to chip designers.

Bence Parti
Photonics Engineer
Bence’s work at Wave Photonics uses his background in mathematical modelling to focus on component adaptation and optimisation.
Before joining Wave Photonics, Bence completed a masters in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics at Oxford, where he also undertook a research project on quantum random walks, developing scripts to test new models.

Tolulope Taiwo-Ashaju
Founder’s Associate
Tolulope joins Wave Photonics to work with the founding team and participate in the coordination, operation, and management of the company. She has work experience in audit and consulting and has previously been involved with work for clients in the private and public sector.She completed an MBA degree from Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. She also studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Cambridge (BA and MEng).

Ralph Malein
Ralph Malein joins Wave Photonics with over 10 years of experience in optics and photonics research, both classical and quantum. He is a physicist and engineer who has previously held experimental postdoctoral positions studying novel quantum light sources at both the University of Exeter, and at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, where he also obtained his PhD in Physics. Before joining Wave Photonics, Ralph was a Senior Development Engineer at Huber+Suhner Polatis, working on implementation of innovative designs for free-space optical wavelength-selective switches. Ralph’s breadth of knowledge in the field of light will be applied to expanding the component library, and to experimental verification of completed designs.

Yu Shu
Yu Shu joins Wave Photonics as a Photonics Engineer following a Postdoctoral Researcher position at the University of Oxford. She holds a PhD in Materials Science from the University of Oxford. Her DPhil and postdoctoral research focused on sustainable nanomanufacturing for flexible electronics and photonics. She also obtained an MSc in Advanced Materials Science and Engineering from Imperial College London.

Alan Sanders
Alan joins Wave Photonics as a Senior Photonics Engineer, bringing with him over a decade of experience developing optical and photonic solutions within industrial R&D environments. Before joining, he was an optical researcher at Microsoft Research, and prior to that a technology consultant at Cambridge Consultants, designing innovative optical systems and sensors for a range of medical products. Alan holds a PhD in Nanophotonics from the University of Cambridge and a Master’s degree in Physics from Durham University.

Mirko Pittaluga
Mirko is focused on advancing the capabilities of Wave Photonics to serve the Quantum Information and Computation industry. Leveraging his deep experience in quantum optics and communication, Mirko has previously developed advanced Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) protocols and systems at Toshiba. There, Mirko led the creation of innovative prototypes, successfully transforming them from conceptual designs to real-world deployment in operational network environments.
He holds a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Leeds earned as a Marie Curie fellow and a master's degree in Physics from the University of Padova.

Tomás Rosales
Tomás joins Wave Photonics as a Full-Stack Developer to work on enhancing the company's customer portal and improving the user experience. Before joining he was a Senior Software Engineer at Mercado Libre, and prior to that a Software Developer Consultant at multiple other companies. He has a wide experience designing and building products, including machine learning and e-commerce platforms. Tomás holds a Master in DevOps and Cloud Computing from the University of Barcelona and a degree in Computer Science from University National of La Plata.

Prakrut Chaubal
Scientific Simulation Software Developer
Prakrut joins Wave Photonics from a Postdoctoral Researcher position at the University of Cambridge. Prakrut completed his Ph.D. with the South Pole Telescope Collaboration at the University of Melbourne focusing on understanding the secondary anisotropies of the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation. Between his Master's and Ph.D., he worked at the Physical Research Laboratory on gravitational waves, soft graviton theorems, and computational models of modified gravity. He holds a Master's degree in Theoretical and Computational Physics from the SISSA/ University of Trento.

Ilaria Sanzari
Ilaria joins Wave Photonics as Business Development Manager, bringing experience in micro- and nanofabrication for industrial applications including life science and health tech. She was awarded a Postdoctoral Marie Curie Fellowship to explore the use of nanomaterials for RNA delivery in plants. Before the Fellowship, Ilaria spent 5 years in consultancy as project operator, project leader and business developer.
Ilaria holds a PhD in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from the University of Southampton where she was trained in microfabrication state-of-the-art facilities.

Mark is a serial entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience in semiconductors, foundries, Electronics Design Automation, Bioscience, and Medical Device industries. Having founded, run and exited multiple startups, he brings perspective from his time in both startups and Fortune 500 companies.

Adrian Meldrum
Adrian Meldrum is an executive business leader with 25 years of photonics, semiconductor and telecommunications experience. Adrian has worked at several organisations such as G&H, Oclaro and Bookham, and has held various positions including CEO and Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). He has been involved in managing global companies and divisions, driving company strategy, general management, marketing, sales, product management, product development, engineering and operations.
